Reading Together Since 1999

I have a friend named Doug who is right about 99.9% of the time about music. He'll tell me I'll like something, I tell him I won't, then eventually, I come around, 99.9% of the time. I've had this Keb' Mo' cd for three years, since it came out and Doug told me about it. I heard Keb' Mo' sing "Love Train" and had forgotten how much I loved his voice. So, I hauled out this cd and began listening, really listening this time. This is such a fine, "simple" cd...not a lot of bells and whistles, but Keb' Mo' playing his guitar, and some background vocals appear by Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Robert Cray (one of my favorites, on vocals and guitar), Robben Ford (vocals and guitar), Shannon Curfman, and Nathan East.
If I had to tell someone about the qualities of Keb' Mo''s voice...hmmm...smooth, velvety, soulful, with a compelling something, like a divine messenger with something to say...sure every woman wants to hear a song like "Shave Yo' Legs," but everyone wants to hear lines like, "Step on up--step into your greatness, Don't be afraid, There's a place that you--will rise up to--No one else--can do what you do," from "Let your Light Shine." And, no one else can do what Keb' Mo' does. Glad he does what he does so well, and we get to hear..... |
